Kuwait believes in social responsibility as a legal duty and a moral obligation

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Islamic Charitable Organization of Kuwait, Special Advisor to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Abdullah Al-Maatouq, said that Kuwait believes that social responsibility is a legal duty and a moral obligation dictated by the human conscience.

This came in a speech delivered by Al-Maatouq at the opening of the (International Conference on Social Responsibility – Congress 2022), which was organized in the Jordanian capital, Amman, by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility and Amman Arab University.

He added that official and private Kuwaiti charitable institutions, under the generous directives of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad, have always given the issue of social responsibility a top priority, as they have recently joined forces and launched several emergency popular campaigns to relieve victims of drought in Somalia and torrents and floods in Sudan and Pakistan.

He stressed that “Kuwait believes that social responsibility is a legal duty imposed by our Islamic religion, a moral obligation dictated by human conscience, and an urgent necessity required by reality.”

Regarding the International Islamic Charitable Organization, Al-Maatouq said that it is one of the Kuwaiti charitable institutions that, throughout its nearly 40-year history, has been able to implement more than 25,000 projects around the world, noting that the value of the assistance it provided to millions of beneficiaries exceeded $1.3 billion.

For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Regional Network for Social Responsibility, Yousef Abdul Ghaffar (Kingdom of Bahrain), officially announced the establishment of (the International Conference for Social Responsibility in the Arab Countries), the launch of an Arab standard for social responsibility project, the launch of a digital platform for orphan care in the Arab world, and the selection of the Qatari city (Daayen) to be the Arab City of Social Responsibility for the year 2023.

In turn, the President of Amman Arab University, Muhammad Al-Widyan, said that social responsibility has played an important role in the progress and development of many societies, indicating that the “Arab World” is in dire need of activating the role of social responsibility to achieve development and prosperity.

Al-Widyan stressed the importance of the conference in promoting new methods, concepts and behavioral patterns to serve society.

For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwaiti Al-Salam Society for Humanitarian and Charitable Works, Nabil Al-Aoun, stressed the importance of creating an Arab standard for social responsibility to develop the productive efficiency of Arab institutions, enhance sustainability, and consolidate the approach to performance evaluation away from randomness, to expand humanitarian and community work and reach larger segments.
